Rodolphus Maximilien Lestrange

Born to a French father and English mother, Rodolphus is the eldest son and heir to the Lestrange diamond fortune. The Lestranges had long established their mines in Sierra Leone and had provided the finest quality diamonds for the Wizarding aristocracy since Africa had first been colonised by wizarding kind. With the conflicts in Africa and the subsequent restrictions on the diamond trade for Muggles and Wizards alike, the Lestranges found a tidy profit to be made in the laundering of diamonds that would only later be known as African Conflict diamonds for both markets. (Roland Lestrange hated Muggles as much as his son. They both, however, understand that money knows no heritage.) Of course, this catering to the elite only earned his father the favour of the ruling classes in Europe, ensuring the future of the Lestrange line with honours bestowed in France by the Ministry there. Lestrange diamonds are known for their quality, fire, size as well as their ability to be enchanted, a rare property only found in Sierra Leone diamonds.

Groomed since he was a young boy to be competitive, Rodolphus was top of his class in Slytherin and Chaser on the Quidditch Team, later Captain and leading Slytherin to victory for the House Cup. Popular and charismatic, Rodolphus cared more for his studies than women, though his conquests were always the most beautiful, the most difficult to bed. His real education, as Rodolphus has always maintained, came at the hands of his private tutors at their summer home in the Swiss Alps. It was in the forgiving Swiss atmosphere that he learned his expertise with Dark Magic, particularly with forms of torture. His most notable skill is one he shares with his wife, that of the use of the Cruciatus Curse. However, he is a creative man; some might wager a genius of a sadist when it comes to extracting information. Always controlled, certain of victory, Rodolphus has yet to fail to get what the Dark Lord wants. He plans on keeping it that way.

His mother had died when he was very young under mysterious circumstances, shortly after the birth of his brother, Rabastan. His father lived until 1975 when Rodolphus was 19, then was killed in an accident at their family home in the West Country of England. Some whispers hint that Rodolphus had quarrelled with his father and had a hand in the elder Lestrange's death, however it was found to be accidental. No matter how the death occurred, Rodolphus came to inherit his father's fortune, mostly holdings in diamond mines. If anything, this only helped to fuel Rodolphus's ambitions. Two years after his inheritance, Rodolphus was received into the ranks of the Death Eaters in 1977. Through the influence of the Dark Lord, Rodolphus was introduced to and subsequently wed Bellatrix Black in 1979. They have no children, though Rodolphus is intent on having an heir, if nothing else than to compete with the Malfoys. Some things never change.

Charming, handsome and witty, Rodolphus is known in Britain for his charitable projects, investment savvy and of course, the Lestrange diamonds. Husband to Bellatrix Lestrange, née Black.
